An update to what I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The landlord just received the letter I put in the office with a copy of the Alberta Tenancy Act attached. I guess once they realized that I knew my legal rights they got scared pretty quick. They called me all apologetic and told me that from now on they would give me atleast 2 days notice and that they will not be going in today and infact they will not be going in at all this month since they are not legally allowed to show the suite until the last month of residency which for me is in November.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I was nervous to exercise my rights at first but I guess it pays to know your legal rights and not be afraid to question what they are doing.

When my brother in law was in college, he completely destroyed the door to his room to the point that there was no use in it being there anymore, had some holes in the walls, and probably some other stuff. His two roommates did not receive their security deposit back and my BIL didn't either, however they got letters stating such, and he did not. Indiana law says something that you must inform the tenants of their security deposit, or else they get a full refund. He read the fine print, called the office a week after the time limit had passed, and got a full refund for his security deposit. It pays (literally) to know your rights!

wow your brother in law is an idiot for trashing the place but since even tho he was in the wrong for thrashing the place still got the security deposit back since he knew the law makes him kind of a genius.

Glad to hear the landlord wasn't a *complete* idiot. Giving 24 hours of notice is NOT too much to ask for. And I say that as a landlord.

If he applied himself he could be one of the smartest guys I know (and I have friends I grew up with who now work on Wall St). He had a full ride to one of the nation's best schools, got kicked out for getting caught underage drinking 3x, and then graduated from a local community college. Needless to say he spent most of his time partying
